East Nashville Kroger employee confesses to stealing nearly $15,000 — Tavaris James

26-year-old Tavaris James was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail Wednesday night, charged with stealing $14,733.45 from his employer, the East Nashville Kroger. In a videotaped confession, James admitted on most days he worked he would sign into the self-checkout system and issue a voucher for around $500 and then either cash it out or load it onto his own debit card or a chime card. He would then spend the money on himself and his family, which he often documented in his shopping bags on social media. He is charged with felony theft and free on a $15,000 bond.

Woman charged with stealing pills, destroying home of woman who helped her with shelter during storm — Kayla Pemberton

27-year-old Kayla Pemberton was booked into the Meto Nashville Jail Tuesday on several outstanding warrants which stemmed from her stay with a South Nashville resident. Warrants allege that in February a resident allowed Pemberton and her son to temporarily stay with her for a few days due to the winter storms. When she advised them they had to leave when the storms were over, Pemberton allegedly became angry and started “destroying the apartment” by throwing things around and breaking them, including cups and an ashtray, which caused damage to the carpet.

The victim, who is in a wheelchair, says Pemberton pushed her which caused bruising to her arms, and took a bottle of approximately 50 prescription pills and food before finally leaving the apartment as requested. Officers documented the disarray of the apartment, including broken dishes on the floor. Kayla Pemberton is charged with assault, theft, and vandalism, and is free on a $3,000 bond.

Nashville Booster charged in theft of almost $5,000 worth of Titans Jerseys from Pro Shop — Orlexus Elliott

23-year-old #BoosterClub member Orlexus Elliott is charged in the theft of $4,720 worth of Titans Jerseys from the pro shop on November 5th. Orlexus and another female, whose arrest is pending, entered the Titans Pro Shop at 1 Titans way earlier this month, grabbed all the jerseys they could, and fled the store, fleeing in a black Nissan Murano convertible. Nashville has a thriving underground of ‘boosters’ who steal racks of items from stores to sell online.

As soon as police initially interviewed Elliott about this theft, she removed the stolen items from her social media, where she had the jerseys listed for sale, and offered to arrange to have them returned. Police gave her time to do that, however, she never followed through. She was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail Thursday, charged with felony theft. She is free on a $2,500 bond.

Former Plato’s Closet manager charged with thefts from store, fake transactions — Malyiea Hogan

22-year-old Malyiea Hogan was booked into custody this week on an outstanding warrant from 2019, charging her with theft while she was an Assistant Manager at Plato’s Closet. Court records allege she applied discounts to her own sale, reducing the transaction from $99 to $2, took $145 in cash while pretending to purchase items from a non-existent customer, and was seen leaving the store with “bags of merchandise”. 52-year-old Robert Lee Hurd was denied entry into Kid Rock’s Bar in downtown Nashville, so he snuck through a window and milled about inside where he pretended to be an employee of the bar. Hurd took money from patrons under the guise of getting them drinks, however, he used it to buy himself drinks… $83.84 worth, to be exact – so approximately 4 drinks. 23-year-old Timothy Strickland faces multiple charges, including felony aggravated assault/strangulation, after his girlfriend reportedly found messages between him and other men on his phone that he was attempting to hook up with. After the wildly detailed physical assault in the police affidavit which left blood on the bed and the victim bruised, he then burnt her social security card, took $180 from her purse, and smashed her iPhone. Metro Police say 20-year-old Jada Wensil convinced a maintenance man to let her into the apartment of her ex-boyfriend from six months prior, at which point she took his new girlfriend’s car keys, purse, and $500 in cash. Eric Savely says he let 32-year-old Latasha Black stay with him for a few days on a temporary basis, and on the last day he requested for her to be gone before he came home from work. 53-year-old Deborah Scales took a DNA test which revealed the man she believed to have been her biological father her entire life was not her real father. Extremely upset, she confronted her mother about the results while assisting her with rice water therapy, as her father had just died. Court records and an investigation by Adult Protective Services reveal she threw the warm rice water on her mother, set off her LifeAlert bracelet during a physical struggle, and threatened to punch her elderly mother if she told the LifeAlert operator anything was wrong. She then took $10,000 from her mother’s bank account. She is charged with felony theft, interference with a 911 call, and domestic assault. She is free on a $29,000 bond.

Montavious Cotton charged after CashApp Scam at auto parts store #ConArtist

22-year-old Montavious Cotton was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail Sunday on an outstanding theft warrant. The warrant alleges that he and a friend went into an auto parts store in December and approached an employee, Kevin Crowell, claiming they needed a battery but didn’t have any money. The victim was sympathetic and agreed to buy the man a battery if he could be paid back, which Montavious said he would do via CashApp. After the purchase, in a ruse of showing the employee how to use Cashapp, Montavious quickly transferred $205 from the victim’s account to his own, said he “messed up” and would pay it back later, with extra, because he “needed it”. Cotton and his friend quickly fled the store and were never seen again.

Man admits to taking silver bars from safe of elderly man he was caring for — Floyd Cowan III #MtZion

64-year-old Floyd Cowan III is free on a $20,000 bond after admitting to police he took silver bars and coins from the safe of an elderly man he was caring for. The victim’s son caught him in the act of removing more items from the safe after the initial theft. Cowan was able to get into the safe by ‘resetting’ the locking code to factory settings with assistance from a local hardware store. He told a pawn shop, which gave him $5,600 for the $7,000 worth of silver items, that his grandfather gave him the silver bars and coins. Cowan is an in-home worker for the elderly, and well-beloved at the Mt. Zion church in Nashville, where his wife, Princess Cowan, is an Elder.

Clerk locks door on ‘Twisted Tea’ thief, who breaks through the glass to escape — Brandon King

Metro Police say a clerk at an Antioch convenience store locked 33-year-old Brandon King inside the store when he attempted to flee with two “tall boy” cans of Twisted Tea, stating “I ain’t paying for this shit”. As the clerk retrieved the cans from the repeat offender’s possession, King busted through the glass of the locked doors, causing approximately $3,500 in damages. The amount was known, since King has busted out the doors once before, during a near-identical shoplifting attempt.
