Anthony King, 86, pulls revolver on son, threatens to kill him

Metro Nashville Police arrested 86-year-old Anthony King Monday afternoon, charging him with the domestic assault of his son. Officers responded to a call at their shared residence on Rural Hill Road just after lunch. The victim, Walter King, says his father had been “verbally argumentative” that morning and stated he was no longer welcome at his house. Anthony then reportedly pulled a silver revolver and pointed it at his son’s face while threatening to shoot him. A witness at the residence overheard the threats.

Funeral Director Melvin Smith fires warning shot after disagreement over pothole repair work

73-year-old Funeral Home Owner Melvin Smith, of Smith Brothers Funeral Directors on Monroe Street, hired Nalor Smith to repair some potholes in the parking lot of his North Nashville funeral home on January 7. When the job was complete, Smith reportedly broke their verbal agreement on the terms of the work and stated he wasn’t going to pay Nalor for his work. Nalor and his two employees prepared to dig up the work they had already completed since it wasn’t going to be paid for, and Melvin Smith brandished a handgun and first a shot into the air at 3:50 p.m. This placed all of the workers in fear, and they packed their things and waited for the police in the parking lot across the street.

81-year-old Luther Brooks caught with hand down child’s pants, says depression made him do it

81-year-old Luther Wayne Brooks of the AVIVA Maybelle Carter Senior Living Center was at a residence on January 5th where a young child was present. The child’s mother noticed it was unusually quiet in the room where Brooks and the child were, and she went to check on them. As she entered the room, she observed Luther sitting in a chair and the child standing between his legs, facing outward. Luther’s hand was inside and down the front of the child’s pants, and he was moving his hand around while bouncing the child up and down. As the mother immediately confronted him, Luther stated, “You caught me!” During a recorded phone call with the child’s father and detectives, Luter stated he “was not talking about it” when asked about the situation. He further stated that his depression was to blame, it had gotten worse, and he needed the release.

John Underdown, 60, charged with public intoxication in downtown Nashville

60-year-old John Underdown entered a building on 1st Ave S. in downtown Nashville late Saturday night while highly intoxicated. Security asked him to leave as he was becoming disorderly, and he refused to leave the property. Metro Nashville Police officers arrived to observe Underdown yelling and cursing at security. After he continued to refuse to go on about his night, he was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication.

Mikelin Evette Beck charged with biting, hitting, and scratching a woman who was walking a dog

56-year-old Mikelin Evette Beck was jailed this weekend on an outstanding warrant from October charging her with the assault of Teresa Alvarado. Beck reportedly approached the victim as she was walking her dog outside her house, grabbing her arm, hitting her on the back of her neck with her elbow, scratching her face, and biting her arm. The victim had a knot on the back of her neck, and scratches and bruises on her body as a result of the assault.

Old man shoots at neighbor in prestigious Nashville neighborhood — Stephen Marstiller

On Sunday afternoon in the wealthy Forest Hills area of Nashville, 73-year-old Stephen Marstiller told his wife, Jeanie Marstiller, to grab his gun from the barn. Marstiller had been in an argument with a nearby neighbor, Robert J. Blake, who was walking in the creek along the rear of the property. The two had gotten into a fight and “grappled” near the creek, arguing over whether the creek itself was Marstiller’s private property while his wife recorded the incident on her phone. After the fight was over, the senior citizen took his .22 rifle to a bridge further down the creek and fired upon the neighbor, missing him by approximately three feet. Officers retrieved a total of three shell casings from the bridge, where Marstiller admits he fired a “warning shot” at the man.

Officers seized his gun and took him into custody, and he was home on a $12,500 bond just over two hours later.

68-year-old Robert Mackenzie found armed and intoxicated outside Honky Tonk Central in Nashville

68-year-old Robert Mackenzie was found outside of Honky Tonk Central by officers working the Entertainment District Initiative on Saturday. Mackenzie was barely able to stand and obviously intoxicated. As he was being taken into custody for public intoxication a loaded .22 caliber handgun was found in his pocket. He was charged with public intoxication and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

60-year-old Neva Mosley charged after making 150+ phone calls to harass ex-lover

60-year-old Neva Jean Mosley was jailed this week, charged with two counts of harassment of her ex-boyfriend, James Maurice Collins. Collins first called Metro Nashville police on May 23rd when Mosely showed up and refused to leave his house after he blocked her repeated calls throughout the day. In addition to the 43 calls from her number, he had an additional 66 missed calls from a ‘private’ number. He initially didn’t want to prosecute her for any crime, just to be left alone. She fled before police arrived on the 23rd, but once they were there she called from another blocked number, at which time the officer told her if she called again, it would be considered harassment. She called back three more times directly after that conversation. She called 12 more times on the 24th, 31 times on the 25th, and left a voicemail on the 25th, stating she was standing outside his home and “just saw the babies”.

Elaine Nugent charged in brutal candlestick holder assault of her son — blames it on him

73-year-old Elaine McCarty Nugent, of Joelton, is charged with the wild aggravated domestic assault of her grown son using a candlestick holder, leaving him with three bloody severe lacerations to the top of his head. When confronted about the assault, she tried to downplay that anything happened, eventually blaming her own son, saying he must have injured himself since he was “mentally ill and suicidal,” a claim she attempted to use multiple times. She was “verbally combative and uncooperative” during the investigation, according to officers. Her disdain for the law and law enforcement isn’t anything new, as she frequently ignores court dates and will be extradited to Sumner County when she’s done in Nashville to face multiple failures to appear and a DUI case she’s been avoiding there since 2019.

71-year-old Margaret Gilliam is free on pre-trial release after she admitted to police that she, indeed, swing her walking cane in an attempt to knock out her neighbor, Victoria Ferris, striking her with the makeshift weapon. Both parties report ongoing issues over the past several weeks, and Ferris says she’s been intimidated and assaulted on multiple prior occasions. A witness, William Looper, was sitting on a bench and observed the apparent unprovoked assault.

Melinda Newpher, 72, charged with DUI, found sitting at a traffic light — 0.203% BAC

When officers found 72-year-old Melinda Newpher behind the wheel of her 2014 Ford Explorer on Acklen Avenue they say she was so intoxicated she couldn’t even perform standard field sobriety tests safely and had to hold onto an officer to stand up. She was reportedly disoriented and reeked of alcohol. She explained she was going “home” and coming from “here”. Newpher would later blow a 0.203% BAC on a breathalyzer, over twice the legal limit in Tennessee. A witness says she sat through several traffic light cycles and could be seen nodding off and sleeping while behind the wheel.

70-year-old Leonard Johnson strikes man with vehicle, confesses he “made a bad choice”

70-year-old Leonard Johnson is free on pre-trial release after police say he purposefully drove into a pedestrian near the side of the roadway on 28th Ave N. just after 8 a.m. Thursday. The victim, Michael Cheatham, states he was standing on the side of the road when Johnson drove up to him and demanded he move, immediately. When Cheatham pointed out there was no traffic in either lane, and nothing blocking him from continuing on his way, Johnson drove into him, striking him with the vehicle before fleeing the scene. After police caught up with him, he admitted to running over the man and stated he “made a bad choice and should not have done this”

Cathy Turner walks out of Walmart with $30K in cash — then confesses, then withdraws her statement

61-year-old Cathy Turner is free on a $5,000 bond after confessing to walking out of the Walmart cash room, where she worked, with $30,860.00 according to police. Walmart management discovered a $13,700 deposit shortage on March 7th, and after reviewing security footage it was discovered that employee Cathy Turner was taking cash from the cash room and taking those bags to the restrooms in the rear of the store, where she then would leave the store with it.

Additional research discovered her taking $7,600 on February 6th, and another $9,500 on February 19th. She provided a written statement to Walmart Loss Prevention during an interview. When she spoke with police, she stated “I know this was wrong, I’ve never done anything like this before”, then requested to withdraw the written statement she had provided.

75-year-old Linda Jones, who carries a homemade shield crafted from the same aluminum foil that lines the interior of her car, was jailed Thursday after she failed to appear on a citation charging her with vandalism. She believes that voices, which were reported at different times to be the voice of the property manager or the Nashville Chief of Police, had told her to destroy her neighbor’s ring doorbell, and at a later time, to kill them. She succeeded in destroying the Ring video doorbell camera, admitting to police she used her cane.

Stalking: Woman breaks into ex-boyfriend’s home; is bitten by his dog — Carla Hilliard

49-year-old Carla Hilliard was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail Saturday on multiple outstanding warrants related to the stalking of her ex-lover, Ronnie Perfect. The couple ended the relationship in late September, and since that time Hilliard has continued to stalk and harass 60-year-old Ronnie Perfect. Some of the incidents include her showing up at his home and work and refusing to leave, she then used a heavy marker to write “Fa***t Loser” on the hood of his vehicle at his workplace.

Most recently she broke into his home, chased him through the residence, and only fled after his dog bit her, leaving a trail of blood on her way out. She is free on a $5,000 bond.
