Funeral Director Melvin Smith fires warning shot after disagreement over pothole repair work

73-year-old Funeral Home Owner Melvin Smith, of Smith Brothers Funeral Directors on Monroe Street, hired Nalor Smith to repair some potholes in the parking lot of his North Nashville funeral home on January 7. When the job was complete, Smith reportedly broke their verbal agreement on the terms of the work and stated he wasn’t going to pay Nalor for his work. Nalor and his two employees prepared to dig up the work they had already completed since it wasn’t going to be paid for, and Melvin Smith brandished a handgun and first a shot into the air at 3:50 p.m. This placed all of the workers in fear, and they packed their things and waited for the police in the parking lot across the street.

Russian tourist Oleg Belonogov too drunk for Nashville

30-year-old Russian tourist Oleg Belonogov was charged with public intoxication on December 21st. According to police, Oleg refused to leave the EG&MC Restaurant and Bar on Jefferson St when asked and began to annoy other customers. When officers arrived at the bar, they offered to give Oleg a ride home or to his hotel, but he refused and told officers he would walk. Officers reported they could smell a “strong odor of alcohol” coming from his breath and that Oleg was unable to walk on his own safely, so he was taken into custody.

Keosha Ferguson charged in assault of WeGo Transit bus driver

20-year-old Keosha Ferguson approached a WeGo Transit bus driven by Thurman Vaught, Jr., in North Nashville on the morning of October 19th when it was 34 degrees outside and beat on the windows, demanding to be let inside. The driver explained he was on a 12-minute layover and that the bus would be available to the public again shortly. Vaught refused to let her on the bus during this period. Ferguson pleaded and stated she was going to be late for work and that she wanted to get on the bus. She then pushed past Vaught, shoulder-checking him. She then reportedly stated, “I will fuck you up!” As the confrontation continued, Ferguson says she kicked him in his right leg. When he advised police were on the way, Ferguson stated, “Wait till police get here, and I will show off!” She was cited for assault and was booked on that citation this week.

MNPD interrupts William Jackson having sex in his car to search it, finds 1 gram weed & gun

22-year-old William Jackson was booked this week on two outstanding warrants from 2020, charging him with possession of marijuana and a handgun after Officer Sara Lober caught him with his pants down and engaged in sex with a woman in a car in a North Nashville apartment complex parking lot. Officer Lober interrupted the festivities and searched his vehicle, locating a .45 Taurus Judge and 1 gram of marijuana. She issued him citations on each charge, and he never showed up for booking.

Duo charged after refusing to leave apartment complex — William Robinson & Brandon Hanserd

20-year-old William Robinson & 30-year-old Brandon Hanserd were both jailed Wednesday afternoon after they refused to leave the property of the Overlook Ridge Apartments in North Nashville. Metro Nashville Police responded to the complex at 12:27 p.m. after reports of individuals near the back of the complex brandishing firearms. Both individuals were once again asked to leave and refused to do so. Management of the complex asked they be removed from the property, and officers verified they had a valid trespass waiver on file.

DUI: Corey ‘Bow Wow’ Bean crashes into house on way to visit female in North Nashville at 4 AM #BecauseIGotHigh

37-year-old Corey Bean told police he was on his way to “visit a female” in North Nashville when he somehow crashed into a mailbox and a house on LaGrange Drive at 4 a.m. Wednesday, though he wasn’t sure how it happened. Though he admitted to drinking two shots of tequila around 11 p.m. the night before, officers say he and the vehicle reeked of marijuana and note he had red, droopy, bloodshot eyes upon their arrival. Officers located a roach and a bag of “Gusher” edibles inside the vehicle. Bean struggled to stay away on the way to the hospital, during the blood draw, and on the way to booking.

Police charge Purdue College student Ian Rant with DUI in Nashville hotel parking lot

Metro Police responded to the Millenium Maxwell House Hotel Sunday afternoon when it was reported that two individuals were passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot. Behind the wheel of the Volkswagen was 19-year-old Ian Rant, who says he came down to Nashville from Purdue University for the weekend. He had checked out of the hotel but stated he was sleeping in the car because he was too impaired to drive. Rant stated he drank ten shots of vodka and ate some marijuana edibles around 10 p.m. the night before. Police found a marijuana pen on his person, a bottle of vodka in a backpack, along with packages of marijuana edibles. He is charged with DUI and is free on pre-trial release. Metro Nashville Police confirmed Monday that neither Rant, 19, nor anyone else, was cited or charged for any of the other items, edibles, marijuana, open vodka, or other paraphernalia in the vehicle.

DUI: Ryan Taugher claims he’s just waiting on his Chipolte, police say he’s too drunk to drive

28-year-old Ryan Taugher was driving a blue Mercedes in North Nashville Friday and parked at the Chipotle on Rosa L. Parks Blvd when police encountered the vehicle, parked partially in the striped handicapped area. Officers approached the car and Taugher stated he was waiting for his order. He admitted to drinking “3 or 4 mimosas” earlier, and police say he reeked of alcohol. He refused all testing and was transported to booking, charged with DUI.

70-year-old Leonard Johnson is free on pre-trial release after police say he purposefully drove into a pedestrian near the side of the roadway on 28th Ave N. just after 8 a.m. Thursday. The victim, Michael Cheatham, states he was standing on the side of the road when Johnson drove up to him and demanded he move, immediately. When Cheatham pointed out there was no traffic in either lane, and nothing blocking him from continuing on his way, Johnson drove into him, striking him with the vehicle before fleeing the scene. After police caught up with him, he admitted to running over the man and stated he “made a bad choice and should not have done this”

In mid-January, Octavia Evans says she was sleeping at her boyfriend’s house on Bank Street when her phone rang a 3:40 a.m. from a female friend. Her boyfriend, 29-year-old Ralph Frierson, heard her talking and reportedly came into the room demanding to know who she was speaking to, convinced it was another man. She says she explained it was one of her girlfriends, but he pulled out a black handgun and threatened to kill her if she didn’t immediately leave his home. She says as she was grabbing her things he placed the gun to her head and told her to exit via the rear door.

#BREAKING: Metro Nashville Police formally issued Titans player Bud Dupree a citation charging him with assault of Walgreens employee Greg Butler. The charging document states “A group of subjects entered the store to shop.  Some of the subjects got into a verbal argument with the victim.  The subjects left, then re-entered the store with the defendant.  The defendant then grabbed the victim and his phone.  They then got into a physical altercation before the defendant left the location.  Due to the victim being assaulted, the defendant is being charged with assault-fear of bodily injury.” Dupree will report for booking on the citation within three weeks.

Jazzy’s unlicensed ‘security guard’ pulls AR-15, threatens to “swiss cheese” vehicle — Eric Jenkins

30-year-old Eric L Jenkins, who isn’t allowed to possess a gun due to his multiple gun and drug-related felonies, domestic violence convictions, and Community Corrections probation status out of Murfreesboro, approached an 18-wheeler which was parked on the public roadway in front of Jazzy’s, which is a club that employs Jenkins as a security guard, with a handgun holstered on his hip despite the state confirming he is not allowed to possess even an unarmed security license. He told the truck driver to move, and when he refused, Jenkins went to his white Ford Crown Victoria 30 yards away and retrieved an AR-15 rifle, pointed it at the 18-wheeler, and threatened to “swiss cheese” the truck if it didn’t move.

The truck driver called police, who responded to the scene and attempted to interview Jenkins, however, the manager of Jazzy’s lied to police and said he wasn’t inside. Once officers prepared his Crown Victoria to be towed, he magically appeared coming out of the club and was taken into custody. In addition to his new felony charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against the truck driver and passenger, he’s charged with prohibited person possession charges, two additional outstanding warrants, and Murfreesboro Community Corrections has a warrant also for his arrest, in case his posts his $27,000 bond in Nashville. Jenkins’ hairline also failed to appear, but did not face any additional charges.

Man walks in on wife while she’s Facetiming a naked man from their daughter’s room — Abel Aguilar

32-year-old faces a domestic assault charge after he reportedly walked in on his wife (they are married, but separated) in their daughter’s room while she was Facetiming with a man who was exposing himself. He grabbed the phone to speak to the man, and ultimately tossed it to the ground, destroying it. Over the course of the next two days, there were multiple arguments, and Abel says his wife pushed him against a wall while acting belligerently and screaming, then called police on him.

His wife then called police to report that she returned home from work to find all of her belongings in the common living room, and as she began to move them back into other rooms of the home, she says he pushed her, she pushed him back, at which time he punched her in the eye and broke her glasses. Aguilar is charged with two counts of vandalism and domestic assault. He is free on a $2,000 cash bond.

Metro Police say 40-year-old Christina Morales crashed in North Nashville, then drove her vehicle to another location before calling police to report the crash. She was obviously intoxicated upon their arrival, and said she had “a few beers”, admitting she had just come from “hanging out with her ex”. She consented to a breathalyzer, on which she blew a 0.321, which is over 4x the legal limit in Tennessee. She is charged with DUI and free on pre-trial release.

Woman free on $25K bond after bringing 109 Oxycodone pills to Skyline hospital — Taylor Tucker

22-year-old Taylor Tucker was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail Tuesday on an outstanding warrant from 2019, charging her with felony drug possession with intent to distribute. Court records reveal she was at Skyline Hospital when she was confronted about having drugs in her possession, at which time she produced 109 unprescribed Oxycodone pills (30mg) and surrendered them to staff, who turned them in to police. A warrant for her arrest was signed the following week, which has been outstanding since that date. She is free on a $25,000 bond.
