DUI: Biruk Dagnew tells police “OK, I might be drunk”

Police say 32-year-old Biruk Dagnew was “violently swerving” across multiple lanes of traffic on Murfreesboro Pike just after 5 a.m. Saturday. A traffic stop was initiated and Dagnew came out of the car and ignored commands from officers. Inside the car, a 12-pack of beer was in plain view, with six missing beers. He stated “no tests” when asked to perform field sobriety tests, then uttered “OK, I might be drunk” repeatedly. Dagnew was charged with DUI.

Police charge Purdue College student Ian Rant with DUI in Nashville hotel parking lot

Metro Police responded to the Millenium Maxwell House Hotel Sunday afternoon when it was reported that two individuals were passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot. Behind the wheel of the Volkswagen was 19-year-old Ian Rant, who says he came down to Nashville from Purdue University for the weekend. He had checked out of the hotel but stated he was sleeping in the car because he was too impaired to drive. Rant stated he drank ten shots of vodka and ate some marijuana edibles around 10 p.m. the night before. Police found a marijuana pen on his person, a bottle of vodka in a backpack, along with packages of marijuana edibles. He is charged with DUI and is free on pre-trial release. Metro Nashville Police confirmed Monday that neither Rant, 19, nor anyone else, was cited or charged for any of the other items, edibles, marijuana, open vodka, or other paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Melinda Newpher, 72, charged with DUI, found sitting at a traffic light — 0.203% BAC

When officers found 72-year-old Melinda Newpher behind the wheel of her 2014 Ford Explorer on Acklen Avenue they say she was so intoxicated she couldn’t even perform standard field sobriety tests safely and had to hold onto an officer to stand up. She was reportedly disoriented and reeked of alcohol. She explained she was going “home” and coming from “here”. Newpher would later blow a 0.203% BAC on a breathalyzer, over twice the legal limit in Tennessee. A witness says she sat through several traffic light cycles and could be seen nodding off and sleeping while behind the wheel.

DUI: Arick Guzman drove his vehicle onto train tracks, heavily intoxicated

Just before 4 a.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the train tracks near Vaughns Gap Road and Hwy 100, where 36-year-old Arick Guzman had driven his white Dodge Journey SUV onto the tracks. He was located outside the vehicle, barely able to stand and with slurred speech. He told officers he had just left a friend’s house and denied drinking any alcohol. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and refused all other testing.

Kelli Diaz, 55, found slumped over behind wheel with baggie of cocaine at McDonald’s

55-year-old Kelli Diaz faces DUI and drug possession charges after police say was found unconscious in the driver’s seat of her running vehicle at a McDonald’s. When first responders arrived, she had a small plastic bag containing cocaine in her hand and she was slumped over the center console. Three empty baggies with white powder residue were also found on the seat beside her, along with a snort straw. Prescription bottles containing Adderall, Diazepam, and Zoloft were also in the vehicle. She was charged with DUI, drug and paraphernalia possession, and given pre-trial release.

DUI: Taylor Schiel crashes Audi on West End, flees vehicle, pretends he wasn’t the driver to police

29-year-old Taylor Davis Schiel crashed his Audi in the middle of West End Avenue and exited the car before police arrived. As police were investigating the scene they noticed a nearby vehicle and spoke with one of the occupants, who told police he just stopped and wanted to make sure everyone was OK. Upon further questioning, he admitted his backseat passenger was actually the driver who fled the Audi, Taylor Schiel. Schiel was seen concealing multiple bottles of liquor, some of which were located in the Audi, including a half-empty bottle of Evan Williams. He was clearly intoxicated and reeked of alcohol, but told officer had had not consumed any alcohol. He was transported to booking and charged with DUI.

One man, two cups, while driving: Thomas Hardin explains one cup is red wine, the other is white wine — DUI

When police asked 64-year-old Thomas Hardin why he had two different cups of wine in his cupholders, with varying amounts missing from each, he succinctly explained that one was for his red wine, and one for his white wine, both of which he was drinking behind the wheel of his vehicle Thursday night. Police were responding to a vehicle vs. pedestrian call when they located Hardin behind the wheel, obviously intoxicated. He stated “I can’t do this” during field sobriety tests, and also admitted to drinking at a venue prior to driving, too.

Jocelyn Barney charged with DUI in downtown Nashville

23-year-old Joycelyn Barney told officers she “swerved to avoid an animal in the road” when she crashed her silver Hyundai Elantra in downtown Nashville at 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers observed both she and a passenger sustained injuries, and while there were no animals in the area of downtown Nashville, there was a large concrete barricade that she struck. She stated they were coming from Ainsworth, and admitted to consuming “a few” mixed drinks containing tequila prior to driving. Due to her extreme level of intoxication, she was charged with DUI.

DUI: Ryan Taugher claims he’s just waiting on his Chipolte, police say he’s too drunk to drive

28-year-old Ryan Taugher was driving a blue Mercedes in North Nashville Friday and parked at the Chipotle on Rosa L. Parks Blvd when police encountered the vehicle, parked partially in the striped handicapped area. Officers approached the car and Taugher stated he was waiting for his order. He admitted to drinking “3 or 4 mimosas” earlier, and police say he reeked of alcohol. He refused all testing and was transported to booking, charged with DUI.

31-year-old Kyle Coolidge crashed into another driver at a red light just before 3 a.m. Sunday. He attempted to flee the scene multiple times, resulting in the other driver removing the keys from Coolridge’s possession. Coolridge then fell asleep in the time it took the police to arrive at the accident scene. He would eventually blow a 0.229% BAC and be charged with DUI.

Bartender Jasalyn Barg charged with DUI 2nd Offense in East Nashville

28-year-old Jasalyn Barg crashed her vehicle in East Nashville on March 19th, and responding officers say she reeked of alcohol. She initially agreed to perform field sobriety tests, but once walking to a safe place to conduct them, she did not continue any of the tasks. Due to her unsteadiness, slurring her words, and smelling of alcohol, she was taken into custody and charged with 2nd offense DUI. On the way to booking, she tinkled in the backseat of the taxpayer taxi. She is additionally held on a warrant from Dickson County.

Metro Nashville Police were investigating an abandoned vehicle near the Bell Rd exit at I-24 when suddenly 29-year-old Logan McCann rear-ended another vehicle in front of officers. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and agreed to a blood draw, however, he backed out of that decision once at the hospital. DUI: Police knock on Jordan Rafferty’s door when she simply goes home after a hit-and-run

27-year-old Jordan Rafferty blew a 0.183% BAC on a breathalyzer when police eventually tracked her down and knocked on her door after she crashed her silver Mazda sedan into a flatbed construction vehicle on Murphy Road and fled the scene. Her car sustained “severe front end damage” and was located in the parking lot of her apartment complex with all airbags deployed. She claims someone at the scene told her to drive home and not worry about it. Witnesses at the scene say she fled the scene as quickly as she collided with the truck. Her Instagram story revealed her at a table with drinks at Otto’s Bar just before the hit-and-run. Rafferty admitted to having “a few glasses” of wine.

75-year-old Gerald McClure charged with DUI as he’s turning into liquor store parking lot

75-year-old Gerald McClure was pulling into the 31-W Liquor store parking lot when another vehicle struck his truck as he was turning across two lanes of traffic. while investigating the accident, it became apparent McClure was intoxicated and admitted to drinking prior to driving. He was charged with DUI and was freed on pre-trial release just over two hours later, with 40 minutes remaining until the liquor store closed for the night.

Bryan Bosworth-Smith passes out in drive-thru for 25 minutes with handgun after smoking questionable marijuana

Police found 20-year-old Bryan Bosworth-Smith passed out in the driver’s seat of his vehicle at a McDonald’s drive-thru with a pistol in his right hand and his car in drive on Saturday. Officers attempted to immobilize the vehicle using their patrol cars and used a loudspeaker, lights, sirens, for over 25 minutes while knocking on his window until he finally woke up in a state of shock and panic – taking his foot off the brake and continuing to hold his weapon. Once they broke out the glass of his rear window he dropped the weapon and complied. He stated he had smoked marijuana which he had bought via a phone app prior to driving.

Police say 33-year-old Keith Patrick Struebing was “significantly exceeding the speed limit and weaving through traffic” on West End Avenue when they eventually caught up to him. During the traffic stop, Struebing stated he had two drinks at a dinner at a hotel and was returning home. He then admitted to two more prior to dinner and eventually stated “I probably drank too much” in slurred speech. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI.
