DUI: 64-year-old admits to drinking 2 margaritas just before driving car that crashed & caught on fire

64-year-old Bettie Blackman is charged with driving under the influence after she crashed her car in Antioch, and witnesses had to get her attention as she sat in the car that was on fire when officers arrived. She told officers she drank two margaritas just before driving that night, and blew a 0.132 BAC.

On February 22nd, Metro Nashville Police officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Oak Barrel Drive in Antioch, just one mile from the home of Bettie Blackman. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle on fire and unoccupied with the defendant Bettie Blackman sitting on the ground close-by. She admitted to being the driver of the vehicle after she crashed it into a ditch. Witnesses had to alert her that she was in a crashed car by knocking on the window.

According to the affidavit, Ms. Blackman had slurred and incoherent speech, watery eyes, a strong smell of alcohol, and vomit on her clothes. She agreed to do a sobriety field test but was unsafe due to her not being able to open her eyes and not being able to stand upright without assistance. She took a breathe test, blowing a 0.132.

Bettie P. Blackman was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail, charged with DUI. She was freed on pre-trial release, and is scheduled to appear in court in April.
