Woman jabs lit cigarette at roommate’s face; charged with domestic assault

68-year-old Carolyn Garlits was charged with domestic assault after she angrily prodded a lit cigarette at her daughter’s boyfriend.

On October 19th, Metro Nashville Police responded to 3700 Colonial Heritage Drive. When police arrived, they made contact with Jesse Johnson who reported he was sitting downstairs with his girlfriend when her mother, Carolyn Garlits, came up to him with a lit cigarette and prodded it at his face because she was upset.

Jesse believed he would be burned. He asked Carolyn to stop, but she persisted until he called police. Two witnesses named Kaylee Garlits and Patrick Hedberg corroborated his story. Carolyn also admitted to placing the cigarette close to his face.

Carolyn Garlits was arrested and charged with domestic assault. She was released on a $1,000 bond.
