Man charged after evading police and trying to hide in dumpster

35-year-old Markel Lillard was charged with theft, evading arrest, and driving without a license after police had to call in a chopper to help locate a stolen vehicle.

On October 22nd, Metro Nashville Police Officers located a stolen vehicle driving on Murfreesboro Pike, with two occupants inside. The plate was run through the system and confirmed as stolen, matching the tag’s make and model. Officers noted Markel Lillard was driving the vehicle, but did not try to stop him. They eventually lost Lillard, calling in a helicopter to assist in locating the vehicle. MNPD Air1 located the vehicle on 779 Lewis Street, near building 34.

When officers approached the automobile, Markel fled on foot. He was told to stop several times but ignored officers’ commands. He was later located trying to hide inside of a dumpster between Claiborne Street and Charles E. Davis Boulevard, which was three blocks away. Lillard’s information was then run through the system, where it was discovered he did not have a driver’s license.

Markel Lillard was arrested and charged with theft greater than $10,000, evading arrest, and driving without a license. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $14,000 bond.
