60-year-old Pastor Neal Perkins was charged with possession of marijuana and felon in possession of a weapon when he was stopped for running a stop sign and during a search of the vehicle, police found two pistols and marijuana.
On August 24th, police pulled over Neal Perkins and a female passenger on Rivergate Drive and Wade Circle for running a stop sign. Perkins stated that he had recently come from the Roadway Inn at 654 Wade Circle.
As the officer conducted a probable cause search, 17.2 grams of marijuana packed in fourteen separate baggies were found inside a glass jar. Along with the marijuana, a .25 caliber pistol was found that was loaded with nine rounds with one chambered as well a 9mm pistol that was also loaded with seven rounds. After a check of his criminal history, it showed that he had two robbery convictions, drug convictions, an aggravated assault conviction, and four felonies. Perkins stated to the officer that he was not under the influence of alcohol nor drugs, and spontaneously uttered “I don’t even smoke marijuana.
Neal Perkins was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent felon in possession of a firearm, and dangerous felony possession of a firearm with intent. His bond was set at $22,500.
