Man smashes car window; “The demon is chasing me!” #Arrested

26-year-old Joel N. Arlotta is charged with vandalism, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication, after he approached a woman’s car on West End, told her “The demon is chasing me”, smashed out her car window, and said, “y’all didn’t think I was that strong, did you!”. Police then found him entangled in a chain-link fence.

Metro Police located Joel Arlotta near 17th Ave North and West End Avenue on October 30th, after they were fueling a patrol vehicle at 1704 West End and investigated a loud pop heard nearby. At the intersection, police observed a glass-covered street and a smashed window of a car, and a man entangled in a chain-link fence, unable to escape.

A person in the car told police she was in the intersection when the man, identified as Joel Arlotta, walked from the other side of the street and placed himself directly in front of her vehicle, despite her having the green light to move forward. She honked her horn, and he told her to turn, as the “demon is chasing him”. The man then walked to the passenger side of the vehicle, violently pulled on the glass until it shattered, and exclaimed: “y’all didn’t think I was that strong, did you!”.

Officers assisted Arlotta to escape the grasp of the chain link fence which trapped him when he ran into it and placed him into custody for causing a hazardous condition that served no legitimate purpose, and being drunk in public. He is free on a pre-trial release, released to a Hendersonville address, though records show he is from Wisconsin.
