Goodlettsville Police intercept Molotov Cocktail before use

Shane Earl Spurgeon is in custody after Goodlettsville Police intercepted him with a prepared Molotov cocktail late Saturday night.

Officers responded to 715 Rivergate Parkway just before midnight Saturday, in response to a report that a white male in tan pants and a dark colored shirt bought gasoline from 711 Rivergate Parkway, and it was observed storing it in a glass bottle, to which some sort of towel appeared attached to the opening of the bottle. Goodlettsville police located the individual, identified as 31-year-old Shane Earl Spurgeon, on the property of 715 Rivergate Parkway, which had a trespass waiver on file.

Upon encountering Spurgeon, he was at the back of the business at the above location, and officers report he had a glass bottle filled with gasoline with paper towels acting as a wick in the opening. Officers immediately recognized this as a ‘Molotov Cocktail’, which Spurgeon confirmed during questioning. Spurgeon remains in the Metro Jail, held in lieu of a $6,000 bond, charged with trespass and possession of an explosive prohibited weapon.
