On Wednesday afternoon, James Fletcher, the victim in the shooting for which rapper ‘Starlito’ (Jermain Shute) is charged, was arrested on two misdemeanor counts: Filing a False Report, & Disorderly Conduct.
What Fletcher Claimed Happened:
- Fletcher claimed the initial incident began as a verbal confrontation with an individual
- Fletcher claimed an individual stole his necklace from his neck
- Fletcher claimed he recovered his necklace from the individual & a fight began
- Fletcher claimed he was shot during the fight
What ACTUALLY Happened:
- Fletcher walked in the door of Batter’d & Fried
- In LESS THAN 5 SECONDS began to assault an individual
- There were no words exchanged between Fletcher and the individual
- The assault by Fletcher was completely unwarranted / unprovoked
- There was no necklace stolen or recovered
- Fletcher was the INSTIGATOR of the initial incident.
From the updated police affidavit:
On 08/01/2017 at 2026 hours, James Fletcher was shot at least once inside 1008 Woodland Street, Nashville, TN 37207 (Batter’d & Fried restaurant). During the initial contact with Fletcher, he reported to Officer Prill that the event began as a verbal confrontation between himself and another individual. The verbal confrontation eventually escalated, and Fletcher claimed the individual as well stole his necklace from his neck (which he was able to recover). Fletcher claimed when his necklace was stolen from him the fight began as he attempted to retrieve it (and during this time he was shot). It should be noted the individual who is believed to have shot Fletcher is not the same individual who Fletcher claimed stole his necklace, and Fletcher is believed to be a victim in the shooting incident.
A subsequent review of the surveillance footage showed that Fletcher’s claims to Officer Prill were false. Footage at the location actually shows Fletcher enter the establishment and assault the individual who he claimed took his necklace. Fletcher was inside the location for approximately 5 seconds before the assault occurred, and surveillance does not show an exchange of words. The assault appears to be completely unwarranted. The footage as well does not show the individual taking a chain from Fletcher’s neck prior to the assault. Fletcher’s statements to Officer Prill appear to be patently false, and footage demonstrates that he was the instigator of the initial confrontation.
Additionally, Fletcher is being charged with disorderly conduct for engaging in violent/threatening behavior in a public location.
Fletcher was released just before 7PM last night on a $6,500 bond via Brooke’s Bail Bonding to his Mitchell Rd address in East Nashville. Starlito is set to appear in court today, 08/24/17, to answer to a harassment charge from a July 12th incident with Robert Higgins. His court date for the shooting case is 09/08/17.
On 08/01/2017 at 2026 hours, James Fletcher was shot at least once inside 1008 Woodland Street, Nashville, TN 37207 (Batter’d & Fried). During the initial contact with Fletcher, he reported to officers on scene that the shooting suspect was a local rapper by the name of “Starlito” (known to be Jermaine Shute). Via a photographic lineup, a witness at the location identified Shute as the suspect with absolute certainty. Surveillance footage collected from the business as well corroborates the account that Shute is the suspect. Shute does not have a valid hand-gun carry permit.
