DUI: Man drives his smart car through Music City Grand Prix construction, nearly striking patrol car

29-year-old David Dreas drove his blue smart car into the Music City Grand Prix track construction area early Wednesday in East Nashville. Police say he was intoxicated, and nearly hit one of their vehicles after ignoring all signs to stop.

Metro Police say they were blocking Shelby Avenue early Wednesday morning, for the construction of the Music City Grand Prix track and facilities. Three officers were there with their patrol vehicles when a blue smart car ignored all the traffic cones and warning and drove through the zone, and attempted to bypass the patrol cars, nearly striking Detective Cote’s vehicle.

Police report the driver, 29-year-old David Dreas, smelled of alcohol, had trouble standing, and showed signs of impairment on field sobriety tests. Even though he declined breath tests, the officers were granted a search warrant by the on-duty commissioner and transported him to Metro General where they retrieved his blood.

David A. Dreas, 29, was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail at 3:41 a.m. on 08/04, charged with driving under the influence. He is free on pre-trial release.
