27-year-old Brandon Duncan faces a multitude of charges after police say that during an interview from the trauma unit at Vanderbilt Hospital, he admitted to smoking “one blunt” several hours before crashing his vehicle near Bellevue, which injured his 2-year-old child on July 2nd, and caused another passenger to be impaled by a stick.
Police say that despite him being in a neck brace and with a leg injury, they were able to administer several field sobriety tests right there in the trauma room, including HGN, modified Romberg, and lack of convergence. During the test, Duncan reportedly exclaimed he would take a blood test if that’s what they wanted, but later refused when it was actually time to proceed. Due to the injured child, however, a search warrant was granted and performed for his blood.
A passenger of the vehicle was impaled with a stick to his left shoulder area, and also sustained a leg injury.
Back at the accident scene, officers located loose marijuana along with a vape pen inside the wrecked vehicle belonging to Duncan. Also inside the vehicle was a stolen Springfield XD handgun, out of Clarksville.
Brandon Duncan was charged with theft of a firearm, DUI with a child, vehicular assault, drug possession, and child neglect. He is free on a $20,000 bond.
