36-year-old William Lanway was charged with aggravated assault with strangulation and false imprisonment after he attacked his ex-girlfriend who he was still living with.
On January 12th, officers were dispatched to Hillmeade Drive in reference to a domestic disturbance. Holly Williams stated she had recently broken up with her boyfriend, William Lanway, who had been living in her apartment for the past several months. Holly told police she had awakened to William looking through multiple drawers in the bedroom and they had started arguing. Holly walked to the kitchen to avoid William but he would not leave her alone. She was afraid of what may possibly happen, so she then attempted to run outside. According to the affidavit, there had been previous incidents of abuse.
Holly then stated William grabbed her in a “bear hug”, pulled her into the hallway, and began covering her mouth and pinching her nose closed. Holly stated that she could not breathe, was gasping for air, and began to hyperventilate. She was afraid that William might kill her. William kept his hands covering her mouth and nose for approximately 6 seconds before Holly was able to wrestle free. She said that during the incident, William told her to “be quiet” and “this only happened because you tried to run away.” After she freed herself William quickly fled the scene. William was later apprehended on March 4th and transported to booking.
William Lanway was arrested and charged for Aggravated Assault with Strangulation and False Imprisonment. His bond was set at $20,000.
