UPDATE: Charges dropped against Husband, Wife released from DCS Custody — Cops had wrong birthdate

In a major update to the story we published yesterday about a refugee couple being separated by Metro Nashville Police, who charged the husband with felony statutory rape and committed the wife to DCS Custody, we have just learned that all charges are being dropped and the wife is being released from DCS custody. Metro Nashville Police say there was an error in determining her date of birth, which was actually in 2003, not 2006, making her 18-years-old, soon to be 19.

Man arrested after being kicked out of three downtown Nashville bars — Michael Costello

23-year-old Michael Costello was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail at security at Kid Rock’s Bar on Broadway in downtown Nashville informed police that Costello had been kicked out of two bars prior to being removed from their venue, and he continued to attempt to come back inside. Officers gave him the chance to walk away and go anywhere else, however, he refused and continued to argue that he was allowed inside.

Driver at Car Meet pulls gun on men who show “rubber testicles” & taunt drivers— Tyler Cobb

Police say Dakota Cummingham and Alex Morton Oneal admit to driving by a car meet of “street racers” on February 4th and holding a pair of rubber testicles toward the people in the crowd while yelling “this meet sucks” and “suck my truck nuts”. They say a red Camero pulled up to them and three males exited the car with guns pointed at them while the driver of the Camero pulled a handgun and chambered a round while telling them they were going to die that day. Police located the vehicle, with the driver, 20-year-old Tyler Cobb, still inside, two blocks away and took him into custody. Cobb also had an outstanding warrant from two weeks prior when he vandalized a car that stopped to take photos of him doing donuts in the middle of the roadway.

Tourist can’t pay the tab after friends leave him at downtown Nashville bar — Brandon Willard

27-year-old Brandon Willard, of North Carolina, was unable to pay his $496.00 tab at a downtown Nashville bar. The bartender says he continued to order drinks for himself and his friends on his tab, and then his friends left the bar. At closing time, he attempted to leave the bar without paying and stated he had no way to pay for the final tab when questioned by police. He was issued a citation for theft of services and was booked on that citation this week.

Woman charged with disorderly conduct in downtown Nashville — Isabel McLaughlin

Police say 20-year-old Isabel McLaughlin was attempting to fight citizens at 4th & Broadway in downtown Nashville. When officers asked her to move along and stop fighting, and despite several warnings, she tried to go around officers and continue the assaults. Officers then issued her a state citation for disorderly conduct. She self-booked on that citation this week.

Birthday boy calls police on his girlfriend when he is “unable to handle” her — Jada Smith arrested

Steven Gates told police he had his girlfriend, 22-year-old Jada Smith, to his home Tuesday night for his “birthday celebrations”. He says Jada became “belligerently drunk” and began to argue, and he felt he was “unable to handle” the situation and called police for assistance and asked them to remove Jada from his home. Officers offered Jada a ride home multiple times or to even arrange a ride for her if she was uncomfortable riding with the police. She refused all offers of assistance, refused to leave, and eventually had to be separated from Mr. Gates as she was coming at him. As officers decided to place her into custody for trespass she fought them and tried kicking officers in the face. She refused to walk to the patrol car and had t be essentially carried, and then placed inside as she refused to get in the car.

Commissioner Eugenia Grayer releases “I’m going to kill a Mexican” man on ‘ROR’ — Jeffery Mitchell

Twice within an hour on Monday, Metro Nashville police responded to a white male, later identified as 51-year-old Jeffery Mitchell, standing outside his Antioch apartment who was specifically threatening to hurt his neighbors, specifically chanting he was going to “Kill a Mexican” and told one of the neighboring children it was going to be her father specifically. The first time, officers told the man to go back to his apartment, and they say he promised to say inside the rest of the night. Thirty minutes later, officers responded to the second call, and the family presented video footage of the chants and threats, and Mitchell admitted to making the threats.

Officer Ashley Kappenmacher, seemingly reluctantly, took Mitchell into custody, charging him with disorderly conduct. Night Court Commissioner Eugenia Grayer released the man back to his home on his own recognizance (ROR), no bail, no pre-trial release, no restrictions, just hours after he was arrested.

VIDEO: Man arrested after causing a disturbance at Roma’s Pizza — Jordan Wilkinson

24-year-old Jordan Wilkinson made a scene inside Roma’s Pizza (video included in story), accusing them of being human traffickers, and stealing his things, while wearing his socks without shoes early Sunday morning. Once police arrived, he began running back and forth across Bell Road, causing traffic to abruptly stop multiple times. He was eventually taken into custody for disorderly conduct, but not before a short tussle with officers who were trying to handcuff him.

Employee charged with theft of vehicle scanner from Berry Hill NTB — Joseph Bundy

21-year-old Joseph Bundy was jailed Tuesday on an outstanding warrant charging him with felony theft. Berry Hill Police say Bundy was an employee of National Tire & Battery, and in October of 2020 he placed a digital vehicle scanner valued at $5,000 in his vehicle at the location. Security footage shows him placing the scanner in his vehicle as he believed no one was watching, and never returned it, despite multiple requests from the business.

Woman charged with DUI after crashing into friend’s East Nashville home — Suzanne Joiner

Metro Nashville Police say 36-year-old Suzanne Joiner first told them she had “cocktails” two hours before crashing into a home on Elvira Avenue. She would later admit she had “a couple of beers” just before the wreck. She reportedly used the gas pedal instead of the brake when arriving at a friend’s house, causing her to collide with multiple parked vehicles and the front porch of the house. She performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

Nashville Police jail Married Afghan refugee; take wife into DCS custody — Maseehullah Feda

Metro Nashville Police initially responded to a 3rd party call about a domestic dispute early Tuesday morning. They met with 25-year-old Maseehullah Feda and his wife, who explained they were a married couple and were recently-arrived refugees from Afghanistan. As police were reviewing their provided and valid Employment Authorization cards they found the wife’s age to be 15. While allowable with permission in the country in which they were married (and also in Hawaii, Missouri, Montana, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire), police were not going to allow it in Tennessee.

Officers inquired about the sexual activities of the married couple, and they admitted they had sex within the past day, as they were married. Officer Paul Hughes took Feda into custody and charged him with felony statutory rape of his wife. Feda remains in jail, while his wife was removed from their home and taken into the custody of DCS.

Nicole Catchpole charged in domestic assault of boyfriend, Art Joyce, in downtown Nashville spat

39-year-old Nicole ‘Nicki’ Catchpole called police to assist her with getting her belongings from the Icon in the Gulch apartment of her boyfriend, Nashville investor & guitarist Art Joyce. She met officers in the lobby early Monday morning and explained the couple had been arguing since 2:30 a.m., and it had only escalated. She stated that he got in ‘close proximity to her face at one point and she struck him in the face with her cell phone. Police interviewed the victim, Arthur Joyce, and noticed visible injuries. Instead of assisting Nicki Catchpole with retrieving her belongings as she had requested, officers took her into custody and charged her with domestic assault.

All he had to do was walk away — William Dutertredelmarcq, arrested

22-year-old William Dutertredelmarcq was reportedly trespassing at the Grand Hyatt Hotel at 1000 Broadway in downtown Nashville, and police responded to the scene. Security advised that William was in an altercation with two hotel guests and had been asked to leave, a request which he was refusing. Officers detained him in a patrol car while they further investigated, and neither guest wanted to prosecute for the assault. Hotel security also didn’t want to prosecute for the trespass, and since they didn’t have a waiver on file, police could not prosecute on their behalf. Officer released him and told him he could go absolutely anywhere in the city, other than the hotel from which he was just given notice of trespass. He exited the patrol car, stood on the sidewalk for a few moments, and went inside the hotel.

Intoxicated man arrested after refusing to wear a mask on flight at Nashville Airport — Raymond Scherer

Police say 29-year-old Raymond Scherer was reportedly intoxicated and refusing to comply with flight attendants while boarding a plane at the Nashville Internation Airport. He refused to wear a mask and was creating a disturbance among other passengers. Once on the jetway, he was given every opportunity to calm down and walk away, however, he continued to be disruptive, eventually yelling “And this f****** b**** right here” as one of the gate agents walked by. He was charged with disorderly conduct and transported booking.

DUI: Man charged after driving wrong way on one-way street downtown — Brendon Powell

Metro Police observed 33-year-old Bendon Powell traveling the wrong way on a one-way street in downtown Nashville Saturday, then hitting a traffic cone as he took a wide turn onto Broadway at a high rate of speed. After conducting a traffic stop, officers described Powell as showing obvious signs of impairment and “indifferent” in his mental state about the current situation. He denied any medical conditions and performed poorly on all field sobriety tests. An officer actually had to catch him as he was falling onto the concrete during one of the tests.

New York man kicked out of The Capitol Hotel in downtown Nashville — Jaime Idrovo

Metro Police responded to the Capitol Hotel in downtown Nashville early Monday morning after 31-year-old Jaime Idrovo was in some sort of disturbance with another guest. Due to all of the commotion in the middle of the night, hotel management asked Idrovo to leave the hotel, but he refused, stating he was going back to sleep. After management asked him a second time, with police present, and he still refused, he was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, and transported to booking.

DUI: Nashville Realtor crashes into a parked car after Margaritas & Tequila — Samantha Patton

25-year-old Nashville Realtor Samantha ‘Sammie’ Patton was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail Friday evening after leaving Cilantro Mexican Grill, where she says she had two margaritas and a shot of tequila before driving. Officers say she left the restaurant and proceeded onto Eastland Ave where she struck a parked vehicle. When officers and medics responded to the overturned vehicle they found Patton extremely impaired. She refused a breath test.

Cameron Robert Stefani says he met an engaged couple, 29-year-old Michell Hill and her fiancée, Sara Pickard, at Jason Aldean’s Bar in downtown Nashville Saturday night into Sunday morning. He says the trio got into an Uber and he was returning to their hotel room with them. As he kissed Sara inside the Uber, Michelle reportedly became upset and at first lightly punches Sara, then assaulted her with a full-on punch to the face. He says the Uber driver stopped the vehicle and the two men separated the two women, and after things calmed down, they all continued to the hotel. Security at the hotel noticed Sara’s freshly bruised eye and alerted police. Officers arrived and took Michelle to jail for 12 hours, charging her with domestic assault.

Woman crashes through fence, yard, car, after drinking on FB live — Shawntika McClain arrested

32-year-old Shawntika McClain faces multiple charges after police say she was driving this weekend and left the roadway, crashed through a fence, drove through a yard, and eventually wrecked into a vehicle parked in the driveway on Ocala Drive in Nashville. Police note she was “obviously intoxicated” and a glance at her social media shows her drinking shots on Facebook live before the crash. McClain has a prior DUI conviction in 2019.

Man booted from Renaissance hotel for being drunk & disorderly — James Hill arrested

61-year-old James Jeffrey Hill was reportedly drunk and disorderly on the 14th floor of the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville Sunday evening. Police located him outside the elevator lobby, in an obvious drunken state and unable to care for himself. Due to his extreme level of intoxication, he was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication.

Man found crashed, asleep behind wheel after ‘1 cup of wine’ — Tadarius Noel arrested

Police responded to a report of a traffic crash Sunday and found 22-year-old Tadarius Noel asleep behind the wheel with the vehicle still in drive, and crashed into another vehicle. Officers were able to place the vehicle in park before waking Noel, who reeked of alcohol. He claimed he only had one cup of wine within the past couple of hours and told officers he wasn’t driving but just sitting in his vehicle parked. After performing poorly on field sobriety tests, Noel blew a 0.093 % BAC on a breathalyzer.

24-year-old Rodneisha Pegram was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail Friday on an outstanding warrant from April of 2020, charging her with assault. The warrant alleges she struck Brittany McKissack in the face and bit her on the right cheek, leaving her with a cut, a large swollen knot, bruising, and swelling. Mckissack posted a video of the assault on social media (included in the story).

Metro Nasvhille Police say 23-year-old William Britt was leaning on a random car at 317 Broadway in downtown Nashville, and someone asked them to check on him. Upon arrival, officers found Britt to be extremely intoxicated, uneasy on his feet, and reeked of alcohol. He told the officer he only had two beers at Jason Aldean’s bar shortly before the interaction. He could not answer any questions about where he was going, where he was staying, and was without a phone, wallet, or transportation. He was transported to booking.

23-year-old Bricen Bunt told police he had just left Play Dance Bar, where he had drank a tequila shot, a Long Island Tea, and a vodka/Redbull, when he crashed his car into another vehicle on I-24 while driving to Murfreesboro in the early hours of Saturday morning. After performing poorly on field sobriety tests, Bunt blew a 0.134 % BAC on a breathalyzer. He is free on pre-trial release.
