Scoop Media files suit against Montgomery County’s redaction of public records

Scoop Media Group has filed suit in Chancery Court against Montgomery County, Tennessee, for denial of access to public records. In January, the local Court Clerk began redacting details from public arrest affidavits. The denials began after a phone call from the County’s Public Information Officer, Michelle Newell, who told Scoop that she did not agree with how Scoop published public records, and would be seeking legislation to prevent future publication, and would restrict access going forward.

Nashville Firefighter resigns amid underage sex allegations; Army is investigating

Benjamin Seth Powers has resigned from the Nashville Fire Department amid the publication of underage sex allegations from court records. He has since requested that the court suspend his child support payments since he no longer has any income. More recently, he is accused of running a vehicle off the road with a neighborhood child inside it, and now the U.S. Army Reserve has launched an investigation into his actions.

Teen duo charged with felony burglary of Gatorade from Titan’s locker room

19-year-olds Seth Pickering, of Indiana, and Joshua Meek, of Michigan, are charged with felony burglary after police say they jumped a fence and made their way into the Titan’s Nissan Stadium, made their way down the tunnel into the player’s locker room, and took a 20 bottle of Gatorade from a cooler.

Victim tells police she can “handle the beatings”, abuser says “she’s on punishment, she’s not going anywhere”

39-year-old Braden Barry remains jailed on a $10,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, after a neighbor noticed his girlfriend appeared to have been beaten. The victim was eventually able to whisper for someone to call the police, after Barry said his girlfriend was “on punishment” and not going anywhere.

Group of adults and juveniles break into Cane Ridge High School

19-year-old Deonte Franklin, 18-year-old Daunte Young, and 18-year-old Temara Spain were charged with burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Deonte was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. These charges arose after they and 3 other defendants were found Cane Ridge High School after hours without permission to be there.

Music Artist Josh Newcom charged with 4 a.m. DUI on way back to tour bus

45-year-old musician Joshua Newcom is charged with DUI after he rolled his vehicle when he ran into the barrier at the entrance ramp of Briley Parkway North from Elm Hill Pike. He told police he was trying to get back to his tour bus, parked near the Opryland Hotel, after having “five beers, like a Budweiser”.

32-year-old Tearson Dixie was arrested on an outstanding warrant, charging her with domestic assault and vandalism on Friday. She is alleged to went through her girlfriend’s phone, then tossed it at her face so hard she sought medical treatment at a hospital.
